LMUD PUBLIC BENEFITS FUND
LMUD HAS $850,000 DOLLARS IN THE PUBLIC BENEFITS FUND
AND DENIES WESTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL $10,000
An energy audit conducted by Cal Air stated that the retrofitting of lights at Westwood High School would be more energy efficient. The total cost of the energy efficient upgrades would be $72,000.

LMUD could only come up with $25,000. LMUD can authorize up to 50% of a projects cost. Now we must remember that LMUD needed to hire a $45,000 a year new employee to distribute this money. Our money. Money that was taken from our utility bills and set aside by state mandate for programs like this.

This is a travesty that all of the $72,000 wasn't given to the school. If LMUD doesn't use this money, they lose it. So why does all of this public benefit money sit and rot in the bank? Just a thought.

Public Utilities Code 391 c:
"It is important that these customers be protected from unfair marketing practices and that market participants demonstrate their creditworthiness and technical expertise in order to engage in power sales to these members of the public."

"Consumers be provided the mechanism to protect themselves from marketing practices that are unfair or abusive."
Public Utilities Code 391 3:
"Pursuant to the authority granted to the commission in this part as to registration and consumer protection matters, the commission shall balance the need to maximize competition by reducing the barriers to entry into the small retail electricity procurement market with the need to protect small consumers against deceptive, unfair, or abusive business practices, or insolvency or the entity offering retail electric service."
